Anything that nature does not produce for a deer to eat that is placed in the wild is bait and not fair chase!
I COULDNT say it ANY better than THAT! well said hawkeye!
OK, here we go again! Did nature put in that soybean field? Or the corn field? Or the apple orchard? No the farmer did. So I guess those are all bait and not fair chase right?
Thank you, Greg! That's what I was getting at yesterday. Some folks just don't seem to be happy unless they've got something to complain about.I'm always amazed by people who think that their way of doing things absolutely has to be the ONLY right way.
If I wanted toconvert to the way of thinking of some of these fellas, I'd have to back WAY up and say that
TRUE "fair chase"would be:
-Spot-and-stalk or still hunting only.
-No stand hunting. That wouldn't be fair CHASE; that's an ambush.
-Self-made bows, arrows, heads and strings only, and those must be made using what nature provides. I mean come on, to be worthy of taking a deer, you should be able to craft your weapons, right?
-No hunting anywhere near crop fields. Humans planted those... they're not "natural".
-No store-boughtcamoflage. That's an unfair advantage. You have to make your own with what nature provides.
-No purchased calls. All calls have to be made using your own voice.
-While we're at it, no eyeglasses or contacts allowed. If you can't see well enough to hunt, you shouldn't be out there.
.... and on and on until we get to the point where you have to walk out into nature butt-naked, pick up two rocks, bang them together until you get a sharp edge, then chase down your quarry and slit it's throat.
Jeesh.
