Default Success in KS early season!!

My dad and Idrew NR KansasML tags this year and decided that early season would be better because we were hunting public land. I went up to Kansas last Friday (9-19) to do a little scouting before wegot out there and chased these bucks around without knowing where they are going. I hunted in the same area that I shot my big buck at last year, but I hunted the walk in, public land this time because I didn't want to step on my friends toes up there as he is running an outfitting business this year. I hadn't seen any bucks over 140" until Sunday night when I found a bachelor group of bucks that had a GIANT 170"+ buck in the group and another nice buck with 6 tines on hisright side. I decided to hunt this field (go figure). I hunted hard and kept seeing the smaller of the two bucks and had a really close encounter with the giant, but couldnt close the deal. My dad came down friday and could only hunt the weeken due to his busy work schedule. On the last night of the hunt, I decided to take him to this field and let him kill this buck because he had done this to me so many times growing up( I figured I owed him a good deer or two!). I had thisbuck patterned pretty well andknew whattime he would show up and from which direction becausehim and another few bucks were going from someCRP toa small secluded pond. (the afternoons were in the90s so they had to get up earlier to drink, worked in our favor but man was it hot!)Sure enough like clockwork the buck showed up and my dad dropped him on the spot! This buck weighed 260lbs live weight and has 12 scoreable points. Too bad his left side didn't match the right! I am going back after that big buck this weekend so I will let you know how that works out.
