Default RE: Take Down LB Build a Long

Ok class I have been busy trying my best to get a lot done to this bow

Once you take the lams out of the oven lay them out in the order we are going to laminate them.

With that done get your paste wax and give the form a good waxing this will help stop any glue drippings from sticking to your formalso give the top pressure strip a good waxing aswell this will stop it from sticking to the tape on the glass

Now place some kitchen plastic over the form as another precaution that your limbs dont get stuck to the form.

Apply the epoxy to all joining sides of the laminations and stack them into the form then using some packing tape ( the sort that has the fibers running the lenght) pull the laminations tight to the form.

Double check everything now and make sure none of the laminations has moved.
Put on the top 1/2 of the form with the air hose once again check to make sure everything is where it's sposed to be and not moved.

Apply 60lb of pressure to the air hose.

Place the form into the heat box for about 4 hours or so.

While we wait for the first limb to be done we can work on the riser and install the limb locking threads.

Place your drilling jig so the center line of the jig is in line with the center line you drew on the riser.

With a 1/4" drill bit drill into the riser 1/4" for the alignment pin, then with a 27/64" bit drill a pilot hole 1 1/4" in the riser do this on both ends of the riser otherwise one of the limbs wont be able to be bolted on

With a 1/2" tap carefully tap a thread into both of the 27/64" holes.

Put some epoxy onto the the limb locking thread.

Then thread it into place so it is level with the riser install the pin and we are done with the riser untill we get both limbs made
