Good reminder, Rob.
I changed out the batteries in EVERYTHING I had before leaving for Colorado... Alarm clock, camera, both flashlights, rangefinder, and GPS.
I also carried four fresh, brand-new AA batteries with me at all times in my fanny pack, and had a monster pack of extra AA's from Sam's Club in my big duffel back at the tent from which to reload with.

I ended up changing the batteries in my camera 3-4 times, even though I didn't use it that much just due to the temps being in the upper 20's when we'd wake up in the morning...
I also changed out the ones in my GPS a couple times because I leave it on constantly as I'm slipping through the mountains; I love the security of knowing EXACTLY where I am in relation to already-marked waypoints. And, yes... I do carry a top-of-the-line compass with me as well just in case. Had to end up using it one day to make it out due to some inclement weather and the inability for my unit to track satellites.
