For my personal equipment, Ipractice the KISS methodology.
im not anti-mechanical....im just having a HECK of a time convincing myself to use them...dont NEED to convince myself of anything...
but i have a mental block that mechanicals are just that...MECHANICAL...ive had it pounded in my brain and confirmed 10000 times over..ANYTHING mechanical CAN AND WILL FAIL sooner or later. period. saftey on a rifle, action of an autoloader, your car parts, the fan in your house, whatever....
and i see those loose blades and all that...i know they are held on by a prettttty small screw in all the instances i can think of....just how hard is it to sear that small screw and have your blade fall off??? not very!
for the record, ive fired jack-knife style mechanicals and Rocky Mountain Snypers..both performed excellent on targets....blow some VERY impressive holes into the foam and fruit ive shot with them...
but, i guess the long and short of it is for me is if it aint broke, dont try fixing it! my fixed heads are always open...*a fair bit* are tougher than any expandable out there on the market right now...so for my fixed head to do ITS job, it has to 1)be sharp and 2)hit the correct spot and it WILL do its job.
just my feelings and why i havent used an expandable on game. believe me, those Rage holes are impressive...does alot more cutting than a standard 2 or 3 or 4 blade fixed head does....and id simply love to blow holes in deer like that to ensure i do as much damage to it as possible....but, they are finally making pretty large cutting fixed heads...i'll let others test them this season...and likely screw em on my arrows next season....my Muzzys aint broke..work great...but a bigger cut is better if you have the energy and momentum for it, which i do
So.....which numbers apply?
