RE: Sheepshead (fresh water drum)
You are right about that Lanse. When my father was alive I asked him if he wanted to come over for a fish fry. He said yes so I went out and caught some lake trout, salmon and a few walleyes. I fillet them all, cut into chunks rolled in the seasoned flour and fried them. He liked the lakers best, salmon second and walleye third. I told him his taste buds were shot and finished up all the wallys. This summer I have had a few fish frys and the easiest thing to catch for me is small mouth bass. I don't use the large ones but when I want a fry I get a bunch of 15 inch fish, fillet them and deep fry right on the beach. Pretty tasty. The only time I kill a bass is when I am having a fry and don't have the time to find some white perch.
