I had one in 30-06, pretty gun and shot ok, but it had the harshest recoil of any gun I have owned, even other 30-06's.

Funny you should say that, my Whelen with the wood stock was just harsh, took the wood off and put a cheapo RamLIne synthetic stock on it and it feels like a completely different gun. Surprising seeing as how the synthetic weighs about half of the wood.
