Had one of my big boys out in the daylight for thirty minutes the other day, he just never came close enough for a shot as he fed with a smaller buck and with some elk ..
Good to hear you are seeing some nice deer and elk. I don't know much about elk, but do the elk and deertolerate eachother when they are feeding for most of the year?Does this only happen in early seasonbefore the rut?
Red, oh yeah, the bucks, bulls, cows, does and even black bears will tolerate each other quite a bit. I've had them all feeding in the same clearcuts on film before.. as far as elk and whitetails go, yeah they really get used to each other and often feed in close proximity usually right at last light though.. Probably my best cover "Sound" to get past a big buck after dark that I need to sneak out on without spooking is simple elk talk/cow calls.. deer are used to elk being noisy and talking like an elk on my way out of stand after dark has saved me many many times from letting a big buck know I am human. As long as he doesnt smell me I can almost always get by. On the flip side, I have had more cow elk screw up a hunt on a big whitetail than any other critter.. they come tromping into feed and usually bump the bucks just enough to keep them out of range.. happens to me at least once or twice a season.. oh well, i guess its a good problem to have..
