Default RE: 243 - 7mm08 - 308 Caliber ?

i would go with the 308. i do not own one but i do have a 30-06. 308 has a shorter hull than 30-06. with the 308 you have a great variaty of bullet weights to choose from, coyote to elk. i do have a 7mm08 and a 243. i have found that with the 7mm08, ammo is very specific to the rifle itself. i have freinds who have 7mm08's and the ammo best for their rifles are crappy in mine. i shot, and nocked down the same deer 4 times, and still had to track her almost a mile with corelocks. 2 were in vital, i shot first at 75 yards, the last time i nocked her down she was over 3 hundred yards. winchester ballistic tips in 139 grain are best for my gun. i have a 243, i shoot 100 grain ballistic tips and drive tacks at 100 yrds, but at 200, she gets out of whack, especially if theres any wind. if you can handle any recoil, id pass on the 243. the 308 would be an all around rifle, get a good name gun, shoot and clean, shoot and clean and shoot some more. what ever you go with, shoot in the rain, sun, snow and heat to be sure you are as comfortable as you can get with your gun.
