Just don't skimp on anything, lot's of pressure involved and you are eliminating the cam advantage. I made one for a friend and used an old bowstring.
are you saying that a bowstring would hold this?

i would try to find a rod with threads on it and use a nut/washer and wooden dowel,slide something over threads where it would touch bow so it does not scratch bow or wrap tape around threads in that area, could do it,it think
