pahntr - I don't recall anyone here saying Rem was bad either. And I mentioned it before and will do so again. I like the Rem action and think it is a great foundation for a custom rifle.
But as far as production guns go, If I had to choose between a Rem or Sav. - I would probably opt for the Savage. But that is my opinion.
As for the pumps by Remington - I don't think any one would turn over their 760 for a 7600. The old 760 is a real workhorse of a rifle and is very accurate for a pump. At least all the ones I've owned or were owned by frineds and family. They have accounted for a lot of filled tags here in PA where I'm from too.
But I don't see a Savage action as being sloppy either.
I ment no hard feelings!!
A also have a 1969 Remington 760 in 308. I have killed most, (all but 2), of my deer with that rifle.( i just need a new foreend and dont want to swap to synthetic!)But I am stationed at Hill AFB, UT, and decided on getting a more long range gun. Enter my 7 Rem Mag in an ADL. Savages are good guns, prolly just about the same as Remmy in all honesty, i just prefer the Remington name on mine! No other reason.
P.S. I maybe comming back to PA this fall for deer. My military status gives me a guarenteed Antlerless tag and a $2.00 license.
