Default 50 cal GM LRH

Took the 50 cal percussion LRH out today to try the 240 gr .44 cal bullets with the 50/44 crush rib sabots. Bullets shot well but way high - like 8" with rear sight at it lowest setting. I tried different charges of triple 7 and Pyrodex RS. The bullets I was using were 240 gr cast SWC and Hornady XPTs.
I went back to shooting the 320 gr REAL and they were shooting moderately well. I just may have to go back to the 275 gr Maxi Hunters that shot very good out of this barrel.
Odd thing is that these 320 gr REALS shot excetional out of the 21" LRH barrel and out of the 32" Lyman GP Hunter barrel.
HMMM - while typing this, I realized that both the 21" and the Lyman rifles are flinters. Maybe I will have to try the old fashion Goex FFg. Oh well -something to try next weekend.
