Well put Doc! Try totell these Michigan boys that their labs shoud be "Flushers" I don't know if it is something in the water out here ot not, but, I have never seen so many amazing pointing labs in my life! It is truly amazing to have a dog never mind the breed that can do so many things so well. If you could find aDOG that is a amazing in the upland/pointing world and equally as amazing in the waterfowl world..Man it doesn't any better then that! And in most cases PL are just that. There is a dog out here in West Michigan named "Gator" a Black Male who is by far the best Multi Purpose dog I have ever seen. I have the pleasure of training with him and his owner. If my female (his niece if you will) turns out to be half the dog he is I will be in awe!

point or not, i feel that the LAB is not dog that some of others i see are on upland birds,grouse is one.
lab just does not seem to have NOSE of say,ENGLISH SETTER.
they get tired quickerdo to their size and heavy coat but training helps this along .
if you want to KILL upland ,if your most important thing is KILLINGlots of birds, then dont get lab.
but, the only dog i want now is LAB but it has to be small long legged ones.
why?
they are great at home, dont shed too much,they hunt good, stay close to you in woods,20 yards out in front,they watch for you all time and will stay close.
they are BEST ALL AROUND DOG but not best for upland birds.
if i can find breeder that has small long legged american lab and if it pointing in its breed,that will be my next one even tho ENGLISH SETTER has best nose and will find you more birds than a lab will.
