The only thing I would choose differently is the Objective lens.
Trying to get better light through the scope at low light times can be crucial, especially if your trying to see the rack a bit better.
4-12 in 40-50mm would be a suggestion.
I personaly hunt with a Leupold vari X III 3-9X and thought it wouldn't be quite as effective on my Texas hunt this past fall, I was wrong...
I was shooting Turkeys at 325 yards, so the 3-9 power worked just fine out of the .270 with 7-8" of drop figured in from a 200 yard zero!

I personally wouldn't shoot past 400 or so yards, just haven't practiced enough to be comfortable, but if your going to be shooting varmints past 300 on a regular basis then get a higher power, especially as you get older and your eyes start working against you.
