Get a grunt call that vocalizes all of the basic buck gruns/doe bleats...keep it simple. As far as the deer scents, I myself would not worry about getting those unless you know of someone who has used them succesfully around where you are hunting.

Get some scent free detergent to wash your hunting clothes in and possibly a rubbermaid like container to store your clothes in so they won't get any bad scent on them prior to your hunt.
