Void or no void a deers lungs a fastened to the chest cavity with shock absourbing tissue. If a deer ducks at the shot the upward thrust of the legs would force the lungs to the bottom on the chest cavity. I don't think it is even a stretch if you really think about it that a high shot in this situation could miss lungs. When a deer plants all fours and thrust to bolt, that's alot of force. Problem solved, move on.

Actually MO, that would force the lungs up against the spine, only the sudden stop of the buck going down would force them down, theoretically. Think thrust/stopping of a vehicle to it's passengers.
