And for that matter why would you waste your time on a .308 when the 30-06 is far superior and just as popular if not more so. I personally don't see the need for the .308 myself, it's a bit outdated really.
My point is you can argue this any way you want really, it boils down to a matter of opinion in the end.

My ballistics info shows the 30-06 and the .308 to be very comparable in velocity and trajectory.I'm not defending either one but facts are facts,not opinions. But so far as the topic of this thread goes, a light bullet is available for the .308 Win. especially if you reload good for varmints.For long range shooting I would go with a rapid expanding bullet.
