I don't shoot HD, but from what i have been told, the regular mini-dv tapes do just as well as the high dollar HD mini-dv's............I'd shoot some footage with the sd tapes and some on the hd tapes and compare the footage to see if there is a difference.
Good idea! I'm filming in HDV too and have been using the Sony HD tapes, about $8 or $9 a piece. I bought a bunch when I got the camera but have not tried the standard mini-DV tapes.
