Default RE: Velocity Question

ORIGINAL: charlie brown

Well, I think I have a load worked up for my Traditions Pursuit.

I have settled on a HDY 250 GR SST in the Black Sabot and 80 grains of Goex 2f.

I shot off a not so solid bench at 50 yards and managed 3 shots right at 1 3/4", and then put one more in that group from a sitting position.

A few days later, I went out and tried out at 100 yards, but the wind was blowing 10-20 MPH, from about a 45 degree angle from the right. I was able to stay on the paper, but the group did go hay wire on me.

Last week I shot one shot, and was dead on at a little over 100 yards (estimated).

My question is, what would I be looking at for velocity with this load?

I have a 26" barrel, and at 5000 feet elevation and will be hunting 7,500-11,000 feet elevation.

I am thinking I should be around 1800 FPS.

I have Chronograph, but I have had problems before when shooting black powder guns at it, I get too much stuff hitting the chrony.

I am also thinking this load should work well for deer to 150 yards, providing I can be confident to that range.

Thanks,

Marcial
I would guess your MV at between 1400-1500 FPS. However, that is just a SWAG! Since all rifles are individuals, you DO need the chrony to tell you for certain!
