If I HAVE to pick from those two, I'd go with the 06. But if I had my choice (and I did) I'd go with the .280. It gives you much more versatility with bullet weights than the .270 which makes it very adequate for larger game such as elk. While at the same time, you can use lighter bullets for deer and hogs.
