RE: ALMOST THERE?? FINALLY??
i agree......if you read my post on the last thread you had...turkeys tend to goto the same places at the same general times each day....sire once in a while something might take them off track but most times they are right there....its called patterning turkeys...you got to do your homework to become successfull and not rely on luck so much...like just hearing a bird and seting up anywhere and calling to him...if he comes i call that luck becuase the homework wasnt done...you have to get out and study the birds and see where they WANT to be....you be ther or in the areas they take to them places and your chances of seeign a bird without calling even is pretty good if your in the right spot...add some good calling and a good setup and it shouldnt be so hard to bag a bird...after you get all that right you got to be motionless and quiet and not look like a human or stick out or have anything out of the ordanary there..then you have to wait for the shot..then you have to hit him and take him cleanly.....i love being in the outdoors so i do alot of homework in many spots....truthfully now that i look back...i kinda wish i wouldnt have taken the bird i did in a way...sure he was a mature longbeard..but i know theres bigger and it was nothing to get him to come in...but he was my first so theres always fall and next year and years to come to get a trophy bird....good luck to you...if you dont have time to do all the homework you still have a good chance of finding a hot bird that will run to the calls....and if you can locate them while they are on the roost(usually they gobble on their own..) and sneak into 200-100 yds i like 150 or so..) and hope he comes you way with the right calls......turkey hunting isnt as hard as some people make it out to be....and it did take me until my 5th year to bag my first bird...i am lucky and have turkeys behind my house and dad doesnt like hunting around the city..so the last 2 years i was back there atleast once a month usually once a week in the fall and near spring season....studying my birds and deer...deer i still cant decide on the spot...i think i go back there to often and spook to much deer...gota work on that....but all my homework paid off on the first time i hunted my spot with my first turkey..good luck....your bird will come...just stick with it.....
