I agree with all of the above. .270 is fine for deer sized animals and adequate for elk if you use a premium bullet and load. Shot placement and knowledge of trajectory is most important to someone going for an elk. The shots can space out a bit in the west and a bullet with flat trajectory and a load ofenergy is best for elk.
