Sounds like Illinois in the 1970s. The population has increased exponentially since then, which has had both pros and cons.
Did any of those folks go empty handed because they were holding out for a big buck, or was it just a matter of nothing coming in range?
yes, we do have storys to tell.thanks for listening,i enjoy telling them and also something you dont hear to much, the TRUTH.
i only hunt nice bucks because i need challenge not that i am great hunter, only i need it hard and doe hunting to me is not.
also why kill off doe if a few are left.
as said before by many here, i grew up in GREAT days here in pa.
lots of deer and nice bucks.
everyone was happy.
lots of camps filled full of hunters.
towns, every home had hunters from many states.
restaurants were full, clubs like ELKS were packed.
now,GHOST TOWNS.
yet, the PGC/DCNR will tell you things are fine.
here is example.
in a 5 mile road trip say on BOONE RD.there are 24 camps in that 5 miles or so.
lets say 150 hunters ,thats low figure .
now, in that 5 mile area, i would bet being i hunted there and grew up in county and know the hunters,i bet there are not more than 10 to 12 deer.
now, out comes all those hunters each year and shoot the doe/fawns.
you bet a lot of hunters dont get deer and wont unless deer herd can grow.
then you throw in all illegal things going on in state,POACHING,FILLING ALL THOSE TAGS,remember you could get up to 45 tags a few years ago to kill a doe, they are called DMAP.
DMAP tags were suppose to be for farmers damage, guess what the DCNR did, they said LETS USE THEM IN STATEFOREST TO GET RID OF DEER.
that was end of numbers of deer in forest.
this is why i am so down on this mentoured/junior kids rule that allows them to shoot a spike buck.
if kids were shooting the buck, i would be first to back this program.yes, some dads are true sportsman and are following rules but they are very few of them.
if ANY buck comes out in drive with crew with kids, NO ONE IS LOOKING TO SEE IF IT HAS 3 POINTS TO SIDE.
they shoot and radio for kids tag..
i never in my life saw so many radios being used in bear/deer season.
i guess i got off topic,take care.
