IMHO, the 30-06 is a better "jack of all trades" rifle since it appears that is what you are looking for; however, decades may pass before you take on all those hunts and in the mean time your choices may change, so....probably no harm done.

The 270 Win was my first centerfire, okay on deer,not all that impressed above that.
