40 acres is the requirement in Illinois. Based on that acreage you can qualify for either resident landowner tags that are free or dirt cheap, or NR landowner tags that are quite a bit less than th regular NR tags, but I think still cost a pretty penny. I am all for lowering the minimal acreage requirement to 29 acres[8D]
