Turkey season is over for me.
I filled my remaining three tags this weekend! I went out to my lease on Friday afternoon and managed to spot and stalk a gobbler that evening. He weighed a little over 20 lbs with a 10 inch beard and 1.25 inch spurs.
The following morning was a swing and a miss for me. I managed to get the birds fired up, but couldn' t get any in close enough. That evening I went back out, set up, and called for a few minutes. Almost immediately a hen came out of the brush and started looking for the other hen that had moved in on her territory. I stopped calling so she wouldn' t bust me and she wandered back into the brush and started yelping. Figuring that she was much better at this turkey calling business than I was, I just sat back and let her do all the calling for me. After about 10 minutes three gobblers came in silently. They were bunched together looking for the hen, but none of them were strutting. They walked a few yards and the hen in the brush clucked; one of the gobblers left the other two and went into the brush towards her. The other two started walking towards me single file. I aimed at the lead bird' s head and fired; both of them dropped in their tracks! The big bird weighed 22 lbs with a 10.5" beard and 1" spurs; the smaller weighed 16lbs with a 5" beard and barely any spurs.
What a season! Now I only have four months to wait until dove season starts
