I put a Nikon fixed 4X on my H&R USHD 12ga and I find it to be just right. Itallows for a good fieldview from very close and still have good magnification out to pretty much the effective range of the sluggun.



Edit: As far as ammo goes, I've had great luck with Winchesters "Platinum Tip" line. The 12ga is 400gr Sabot slug at 1,700fps. To me they seem to put the deer down faster than the Winchester Supreme's that are a little lighter (385grn I think)and zip out at 1,900fps. I prefer the design of the Platinum Tips and think for thinned skin game they work better.
