RE: Bear Hunt in Alaska - Recommendations

It has been too long since I've lived in Alaska, all my info is out of date with the exception of rifle and calibre. The control feed was very popular with guides. The didn't seem too impressed with the push feed actions. If your going after Grizzly, any cartridge considered a good elk cartridge will do the job. The Brown Bear is a different story. I used a .30-06 with a 220 grain bullet. That was STUPID!!!!!! I would not suggest ANY 7mm or .30 cal. The .338 WM with a GOOD 250 grain bullet, such as the Nosler Partition, will do the job. If you are close to the coast, Gore-Tex clothing that covers from head to foot is a very good idea. It rains a lot up there. I hope you donot mind if I'm green with envy.
