The Savage Mark IIis heavy at 7 1/4 pounds, a plastic trigger guard, not many mods can be done to them unlike the Ruger.
The 10/22s nowhave plastic trigger guards as well, FWIW.
If you want accurate for under $500, get a older remington 513,540-series, 580 series, or Mossberg bolt action. If money is no object, a Winchester 52 or Anschutz is king. For a semiauto, the 10/22 can either be the best plinker or the biggest money-pit depending on what you want to use it for. The Marlin 60 is a great gun, as for the remington 597- been there, done that, got the t-shirt to prove it, and will probably never buy another new remington product because of it[:@]
