If you really want to thump them take oldelkhunter's advice. A 'little' Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 will definately put them in their place and is nice to carry. Best to try and find an older one that is ported. I love mine and I don't think I will ever get rid of it.
Do you guys scope the 1895G's? There are a couple of places where I timber hunt elk, nothing over 100yds and this sounds like a fun way to hunt them.
