RE: What best describes you?
I got into archery to hunt more. Gun season wasn't enough. My first bow was an old mid 70's Bear polar 2. It was (and still is) to long for me. I loved it because I could get out more.
I never had enough money to buy a good bow when I was into compounds. I was in the military and worked a part time job to make the bills. I liked it but was always messing with my setups. It got old, as did the money I spent on stuff. Even though I didn't spend like some people do now. A couple hundred bucks over a year was alot then. Anyway I was in a salvation army store one day and they had an old Bear Grizzly and some arrows. 30 bucks and it was mine. It was som simple ...I didn't stop with the compounds but started reading on another site about trad. I have always loved making stuff myself so selfbows seemed really cool to me. Through that board I met a guy that was nice enough to give me a stave and let me use his tools. I made my first selfbow. When I released my first arrow I was hooked. I love making them as much as shooting them. It feels so right to be in the woods with it. While I haven't been totaly trad I can see it comming. I went a couple years without a deer carrying my selfbows...picked up my compound (still shoots exactly like before even after two years of not touching it) Killed a deer and ended up getting a shot during gun season.
So for this year my goals are to get my daughter her first deer. And to get one with a selfbow or recurve.
As far as target shooting ... as long as its practicing for hunting....LOL
