I've got a 35 whelen and really like it, but there is more bullet selection in .338. So, probably a .338 fed for short action or a .338-06 for a standard long action.

CJ, we often have similar opinions and it looks as though we have a very similar battery of rifles. 218 bee, .223, .243, 6mm-06, 25-308, 7mm rem mag, .308, and 35 whelen for me.
