FACTOR,most of the big Pa bucks that I've seen have come from your part of the state. You're fortunate to live there! We have quantity but not real quality in my region (5-D), but we don't have the EHD problem though. Is it true thatcold weather makes those bugs not so much of a problem? I think I've heard this. I've also heard that in certain area's, you could smell the dead deer rotting?
They say the "cold weather" doesn't make the EHD (bug) as active and that the extremely hot and dry weather we had last year really added to the problem. You're right, in certain areas of Washington, Greene and Fayette counties numerous deer could be seen and smelled. The deer that were affected were usually found around ponds or water. The biologists say that the EHD disease occurs every year and usually only affects only a handful of deer but last year (2007) the weather was extremely hot and dry later into the year and into hunting season that the bug was not killed off due to an early or regular frost.
