I do it most times. Ideally I would not, but have learned getting a perfect fit between served string and knock is bleeding hard to do otherwise, and I like to get it just right - so a good thump doesnt pop it off the string, but loose enough so I loose a minimum of fps by it sticking to the string at release. Have not had any problems in eight or so years, usually a few passes of a nail file does the trick.
