Going over this 7.62 verses 308 it's my understanding that the 308 is loaded to higher pressures and therefor might not be safe in some of the older 7.62 guns (ie 96 mausers that have been rebarreled to 7.62 specs) but I've never heard it the other way around. OH is the 308 dead, nope not even close to it's golden years yet, I've got 3, and am putting another one together, heck Wal Mart even stocks rounds for it,
