Is the 308 Windead? Hardly, this mild mannered cartridge has been around a long time and continues to have success in miltary, LE and hunting uses. I dont see it going away for a long long time. Like others have said, in todays world it's a'"bigger faster" thing today and there seems no appeal for the mundane cartridhes such as the 308.
But that's ok, I'll throw the 44 grs of powder behind a 168 ish gr bullet and have fun.
Here's a 308 that's a pure joy to shoot and shoot it does.
