Default RE: Is the .308 Dead?

ORIGINAL: HuntAway

With all the hype over short mags and super mags and hot little hyper mags, is the old .308 workhorse dead? The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering buying a BLR in .308. Everything in print hypes everything else and just sort of ignores the .308. I must admit I haven't shot a .308 since the Canadian military went to the 5.56. But I do remember it as a very accurate round out of our old FNC1's. (Damm that was a nice rifle).........
What are your thoughts? Dead or alive.....
The .308 remains as one of the most popular cartridges out there, the younger and less experienced folks are just hung up on the Ultra Mags, Short Mags, etc. at the moment.
