I used this exact tactic one year while rifle hunting. I went out to fill some doe tags one time and a doe & 2 fawns come running up to me. I shot the doe first then waited for the fawns to stop running and check on their mama. Then I shot one of the fawns. I knew they wouldn't go far without their mom. By the way, I didn't feel bad about doing it eithor.
Do you have any feelings for the deer you kill. If you don't, you are a killer, not a hunter. I hope you don't use the if it's brown it's down philosophy.
My purpose that day was to put some meat in the freezer. I did it in the most practical way as the oppertunity was presented. I had 3 tags open. I shot each thru the lungs. I'm not sure what you think I did wrong. I do have a lot of respect for deer. I can't put them in my freezer unless I shoot them. Should I have shot the fawn first then tried to make a running shot on the doe? And for your info, That day I absolutely used the if it's brown it's down philosophy!!!!!
As long as it was not a young buck. he would have got a free pass. I will never apologize for killing a deer for meat. Buck, doe, or fawn. I forgot to add, I killed a doe fawn 200yds away from them that same evening. She, and the other 2 were yummy
