carbon arrow advice needed
I have a 45 lb. 64 inch Barta longbow (Martin Bushmaster) that I have been shooting about 4 months. I shoot three fingers under. My draw on the longbow is 28 inches, which is 1.5 inches shorter than when shooting my Diamond Liberty. It has a fastflight string from the factory.
I been using some very old but sound PO cedar arrows that I used in the mid 70's with my recurves. I refletched them with 5 inch helical shield feathers. I am getting better and better with daily practice and I love shooting the bow.
I have a gift certificate to a bow shop and was thinking about trying a half dozen carbon arrows. For my wife's bow, I bought some Beman carbon Venture 500's with 100 gr. field points and 4 inch parabolic feathers. They are 28 inches so I tried them with my longbow. They were faster than the PO cedars but really produced a shock with the longbow. The PO cedar arrows don't do that.
The bow shop mainly carries Beman arrows and is almost exclusively compounds so I am not sure they will have the best advice for what arrows to buy. That is why I am asking your advice as experienced trad archers.
What spine arrows (500 or 400) should I try with what feather fletch (4 or 5 inch) and with what field points (100, 125 or heavier gr points)?
Thanks,
McPhee
