Default RE: Big Spike I killed a few years back

Nice Spike!! I agree with Rockinchair, did you get a chance to age him? I passed on 2 spikes I was thinking on taking in the past 3 years. Both we on opening days. One was a little bit shorter than yours. He passed within 15 yards of me on my ground blind and decided he was big, but thought he was a little young. Let him passed (shot a nice buck 100 yards from that stand this year, which is 2 years later, hoping it was him and my patients paid off!) Has another one that I saw at dawn, big body and antlers were about 5 inches long and thicker. Some may have called him a four point, but was aspike to me. I Let him pass since I only had one buck tag, but If I had another I would have taken him for sure. My buddy shot him 2 hours later 300 yards away (he had 2 buck tags). Aged him and he was 3 1/2! Talk about a good deer to take off the land! The way I see it, if you have a buck with bad genes that breeds 8 does and 5 button bucks come out of those does next spring, thats even more deer with bad genetics you have to worry about. QDM isn't just taking good bucks, it's knowing the smaller bucks to take out as well.

Again, Congrats on the nice buck!!
