I had mine in the garage last year with the fan drying and one day the beard was missing with nothing left but mouse droppings.So I mounted the fan without a beard.This past fall I was cleaning out my garage and in a drawer found my beard.The mouse used it for a nest.Results,one dead mouse,and one happy hunter.
