Rain+Drag Cars/ I almost Died
Well tonight was the season opener at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park and as predicted it rained.... well sorta. It was sprinkling on the way out to the raceway and then quit. Well about 5 minutes before the first race it started sprinkling real lightly. They thought they had dried the track but nope they didn't.
First race the guy in the lane closest to me got about 50 feet down the track, hit some water, it caused the car to slide sideways, he crossed into the other lane and almost took out the other racer, crashed into that concrete wall, bounced off towards his original lane and crashed head on into that concrete barrier going about 100 mph. It was pretty, luckily he escaped without any injuries but his car was completely totalled. They then decided to cancel the entire show because once it started raining it was going to rain for a long while.
The trip home was even more scary. I was driving down the road at about 55 which was the speed limit, and te truck in front of me wasn't paying attention to the traffic in front of him, instead he was talking on a cell phone and he slammed on the brakes to avoid rear ending the person in front of him, i slammed on the brakes and ended up about 5 inches fron the ball on the truck.
A Chevy S-10 following way to closesly behind me wasn't paying attention, slammed on his brakes and knew he wasn't going to stop in time so he swerved off the road and flew partly over a 2-3 yard ditch before slamming his front passenger side tire into the ditch and he slid through someones side yard sideways. I guess nothing was wrong as he got right back on the road but he was so close i had mud and grass come in through the passenger window and land on the seat. Lets just say its been an eventful, stressful and down right scary night.
