IMO both cartridges would make a great choice. I do not necessarily agree that the 308 is more accurate than the 30-06. But it could be. It does have an advantage or two. I would say the best advantage is that it is a short action.

As far as factory ammo versus reloads. There is no doubt that reloads, if done properly should outshoot factory ammunition. However if there was two cartridges that factory ammo has excelled at, it would be the 308 Winchester, and the 223 Remington. There is a lot of great ammunition available for the 308. The Black Hills stuff is superb. I have seen some of the Black Hills stuff shoot better than most people can reload. Tom.
