Rory....you bring up a good question....

We'll likely be in a woods setting for most of the time we're hunting this weekend. I've heard other say the same thing about woods hunting.....and I've heard people say they still use one in the woods.

My bird from last year was killed in the woods....but to be honest.....they didn't "fully" commit to my deke. They saw it.....but didn't come in all the way to it. I'm not sure how NOT having one would have been "better", though, honestly.

I'd like to hear more about this. The woods we'll be in Friday are pretty thick.

Edit** They're also liable to come from EITHER direction, Friday.
well, when the woods are open, they tend to hang up a lot, just scanning where they heard the calling come from, since they have such great eyes. when the woods are thicker, and more greened up, they tend to come look for the hen, not have the hen come to them. NOW KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS JUST MOST OF THE TIME, NOT ALL OF IT.

just based on my dad, my brother, and my experiences (60-70 turkeys harvested)

im sure you will put one down, either way!
good luck to ya!
