I do the same as JW. If I saved the whole leg it would look like the Butterball factory in the man cave.
A good friend of mine, several years my senior, has been saving all his spurs since he was a youngman.. this is a guy who travels all over the place and kills upwards of 6 or 7 birds a spring and has been doing so for almost 50 years. He has a piece of paracord the length of a double-dutch jump rope that is almost solid spurs end to end..... to put it in perspective his hunting room is converted from a two car garage and his spurs run the length of it......
I have my own piece of paracord now.... but it ain't 1/10th that length!
I take the skin/scales off mine and bleach them, then I write with a fine sharpie pen the date and the state or county I took the bird in. Helps me remember which set is which.
