Gun scubber work pretty good. Brake cleaner works a little better, is cheaper, but has to be used carefully. Carb cleaner really cuts the crud and grime out, but should never be allowed to come in contact with plastic based synthetic materials, like grips, stocks, etc., as it will melt them, and may be harmful to some finishes on wood grips and stocks as well.

Anyway, what has happened to the grips on your P95, is that the brake cleaner has cut and removed all the oils from the surface of your grips. Apply several coats of CLP, break-free, Rem-oil, etc., over the next few days and they should returned back to their original color.
