What is the max range for most of the traditional archers on this site,
For me its 20 yards on the average. Some days its less then that. It all really depends on how I'm shooting that particular day. Every time before I go out hunting I shoot a dozen arrows or so. 90% of the time I'm golden to 20 yards, other times I'm not and 15 yards is all the farther I'll allow myself to shoot. There has been times when I was deadly at 25 yards, I've never taken a 25 yard shot but the choice was there if I really felt good about it. My longest shots have been 22 yards twice. Both times it was at a doe walking, I never stopped her either time and I drilled both of the doe's, double lung shots! If it don't feel right the least bit, don't take the shot! I've passed up deer at 10 yards because something didn't feel right when I drew my recurve back. Its your instincts telling you something!! Believe in them, I know its made me a much better decision maker with my shots.
How often did you encounter a nice one just outside of thisrange
Too many times!! I've had numerous opportunities at 130" to 150" bucks between 20 yards and 30 yards that I let go by being It was a tad out of my range. I can recall about 4 different bull elk that were just a tad out of range also, thats hunting for ya though!

Chances are my walls would look allot nicer if I was shooting a compound. I'm not pissy about it though, thats what happens when you shoot Traditional bows and you better except it for what it is that your range is going to be allot closer. I've said this in other threads that I have to become a better deer hunter in stand placements being I shoot a recurve. Its a challenge getting these animals close and I love it.
