They will do the job, but won't have the range as longer shells.
Range is not the problem with 2 3/4 inch shells. Because they contain a lighter amount of lead shot they impart just as much velocity to that shot as a 3 inch shell will to a heavier load. The drawback is that containing less pellets means that you will probably not get as dense a pattern from a 2 3/4 inch shell as you will from a 3 inch shell. The only real advantage of 3 or 3 1/2 inch shells is an increased number of pellets that also increase the likelyhood of one finding a lethal spot on a turkeys head or neck. But if a gun patterns well with 2 3/4 inch shells it has the potential to kill at an equal range.
