RE: Who can tell me about the .358 Winchester ?
The only thing I think you guy's missed was the type of rifle and bullet casting. The 358 is a fantasitic lever action round, and is considered by many to be the minumum in Big Bore Hunting. It is also a fantastic round for bullet caster's. The 35 performs very well with cast bullets. And 35 caliber bullet's are very easy to cast. It is where bullet weight(200 grain or slightly larger) meets maximum cast velocity(within reason). Without substantial recoil. This cartridge really shines in the cast bullet world. It is a true favorite there.
I have an Encore pisto barrel in 358 Winchester. I will admit it is a handful with a cast 200 grain pill. But it is a deer dropper.
I do disagree with the above comment of it only being a 200 yard cartridge. This fallacy came about because most 358's are in open sighted lever actions, so people assume a 200 yard limit. Do a little research and you will see that the cartridge has far longer range than 200 yards. Tom.
