i will say something a little different. dont use mag primers in standard loads if you are starting out at the max.
now if you take a starting load and use a mag primer instead of a standard one, you should be fine. i actually use a mag primer in my 38spl load of 6.5gr of bluedot. why you ask, because it burns cleaner using the mag primer with the magnum powder.
dont blindly follow what the load manuals say, every gun is different and every reloader needs to use the head on there shoulders.
without tinkering there would be no 44mag because elmer keith wouldnt have pushed the limits of the 44spl.
now admittidly we might have had one but it would not have been til later. though since he wrote of the exploits with handguns we may not have, because of no interest by the public.
